Pelucas y Tacones (Wigs and High Heels), London's pioneering Spanish kitsch and queer night, is an award winning themed party put on by close friends who share a passion for out of the norm Spanish music, queer politics and an extraordinary sense of humour. Since its casual beginnings in 2005, Pelucas y Tacones has evolved into a popular international event that serves both as a meeting point for the Spanish community abroad and a platform for the showcase of Spanish subcultures.

Pelucas y Tacones is as much about music and dress code themes as it is about its thriving, open-minded community. The music, only in Spanish, is rooted on the boundless, revolutionary post dictatorship ‘Movida’ scene and aesthetically reaches out to music from different decades and genres that embody queer, dance and kitsch sensibilities.

Dress-code themes have become the stuff of legend and are key to the success of the party. Unique to each party and always optional, themes are suggested with the purpose to increase interactivity and creativity among the community prior to the event, but also to challenge gender and self perception. Themes often satirize current social concerns and events that remain relevant and popular to the community (abortion, marriage, olympics).

The friendly, open-minded and welcoming vibe of the regulars keep the event appealing to all kinds of people, regardless of sexual orientation or nationality, making it a truly free-spirited and international party. Pelucas y Tacones owns its success to London’s Spanish LGBT community, their friends and the perseverant, envisioning labour of founder/resident DJ Alejandro Asencio supported by founder/resident DJ Pepi (Noelia S.) and the production assistance of Alejandro Negueruela and Esther Urzanqui.
